Description

It is a wonderful take on fairy tales that we all know and love. A plague has swept the Kingdom and whole villages are coming down with 'sleep'. A wake-less state that can't be undone. This release is an extended cut of the story broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and features an exclusive introduction from Neil Gaiman. The Sleeper and the Spindle isn’t the first retelling to stray away from the ”boy-kisses-girl” bias of traditional fairytales. Although Gaiman’s book features a big, central illustration of the queen kissing the princess, it’s not a gay love story. But Malinda Lo’s Ash, an evocative and compelling take on Cinderella, is one. Ash, short for Aisling, grieves for her mother’s death and her enforced exile from her beloved childhood home as she works for her stepmother, paying off her father’s inherited debts. To win the freedom to ride with the King’s hunt, she pledges herself to Sidhean, a cruel but besotted fairy – but it’s not him Ash really wants, it’s the King’s Huntress … Bestselling author Neil Gaiman has long been one of the top writers in modern comics, as well as writing books for readers of all ages. He is listed in the Dictionary of Literary Biography as one of the top ten living post-modern writers, and is a prolific creator of works of prose, poetry, film, journalism, comics, song lyrics, and drama.

It has too many lines like this: But the path to her death, heartbeat by heartbeat, would be inevitable. or this: It would be the end of her life, she decided, if life was a time of choices. which (of course) made everything ridiculously and overwhelmingly dramatic... which is one sure way to take me out of the story. In some parts of the book the description of the scene was so powerful that it made me feel as if I were really there! However, the book was also very frightening and creepy. I did not find that very amusing but the book still had its own jokes which made it bearable to read. If I’d read just the words, this would have been a solid 3*, but I’ve long loved Riddell’s work, and he, along with the publisher and printers, raise the book to a realm above the high mountain range that even crows do not cross.A thrillingly reimagined fairy tale from the truly magical combination of author Neil Gaiman and illustrator Chris Riddell – weaving together a sort-of Snow White and an almost Sleeping Beauty with a thread of dark magic, which will hold readers spellbound from start to finish. On the eve of her wedding, a young queen sets out to rescue a princess from an enchantment. She casts aside her fine wedding clothes, takes her chain mail and her sword and follows her brave dwarf retainers into the tunnels under the mountain towards the sleeping kingdom. This queen will decide her own future – and the princess who needs rescuing is not quite what she seems. Twisting together the familiar and the new, this perfectly delicious, captivating and darkly funny tale shows its creators at the peak of their talents. Adaptational Villainy: The enchantress manages to be even worse than in the original version. Instead of cursing the princess purely out of spite, she deliberately drains her youth and beauty over several decades, and builds herself an army of enslaved sleeping victims to take over the world; plus her curse forces the princess to remain awake for all those years, powerless to escape or do anything to stop her tormentor. Igualmente, se me hizo corto, y entiendo que es una historia corta, pero el final se me hizo muy repentino. Usually a man is saving the day, saving the princess or town from DANGER. No, not this story. In fact, there is very little talk about men, besides the three dwarfs. In this story as you read you find that there was a spell cast on this small town, because of Sleeping Beauty. The people as well as the sleeping beauty have been asleep for some time now. Many have tried to save them, but all have failed. Not the ideal bedtime story for a toddler, perhaps, but a richly nuanced tale with a contemporary slant that will fire your imagination - and haunt your dreams.

Enormous peaks of mountains separate the kingdoms of Dorimar and kanselaire. Kanelaire is rowdy as the wedding of their queen approaches. But Dormiar is silent as it mourns the spell that has put its princess to sleep. Mundane Solution: To get to the sleeping princess, the queen and the dwarfs have to get through a barrier of razor sharp thorns, which has already claimed the lives of several would-be rescuers. By this stage the briars are long dead even if they're still sharp, so the queen sets them alight with help from a tinder box.

This Christmas' offering was a radio play adaptation of The Sleeper and the Spindle, a book I really enjoyed reading.

We find out all is not as it seems as the Beauty wakes up. There is evilness afoot!! But alas, things are set to rights and the Queen and her dwarfs set out on their way... but the Queen is unsure of what she wants... This novel is filled with some of the most gorgeous illustrations I have ever laid my eyes on. Chris Riddell is an epic, pencil-wielding Wizard who I can't believe I've never heard of before. After stalking some of his other collaborations (Goth Girl, etc) I can definitely see myself buying more of his works! *grabby hands* PDF / EPUB File Name: The_Sleeper_and_the_Spindle_-_Neil_Gaiman.pdf, The_Sleeper_and_the_Spindle_-_Neil_Gaiman.epub Also, the prince deserved better than getting ghosted. There was nothing in the story that says he was anything other than a good guy. <--doesn't mean she needs to love him, but it does mean he should get more than a lifetime of wondering if his fiancee got eaten by a bear.A ver, si fuera por la edición de Salamandra y las ilustraciones le ponía 20 sobre 5. Pero en esta novela/historia lo que cuenta es también, justamente, la historia. A brand new BBC Radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman's award-winning fairytale, merging Snow White and Sleeping Beauty to enchanting effect
