A return to measures that we were living with in April would be needed to stop hospitals being overwhelmed. Alexander received praise for his book and the positive impact it had on school children in the United Kingdom. Alexander recounts, “I had my own issues. I had issues in my family. I lost my uncle during the pandemic. This book was like therapy to me because some of the themes in the story are hope, determination, adapting to change, kindness, and these were skills and qualities that I wanted my pupils to gain, but they were also qualities I had to remind myself that I was capable of tuning into during that very difficult time for myself and my family.” Alexander also recalls the negative impacts of the pandemic he saw reflected in his students. He mentions higher levels of anxiety, gained weight, and countless hours online as the main factors that affected his students. Alexander says, “Children were looking at things online and not being happy with themselves because they're comparing themselves to the sort of forced reality that they're seeing online.”

Alexander’s parents were strict when it came to academics, and as a result, he devoted most of his time to schoolwork. Even when he wasn’t in school, he spent much of his free time reading rather than getting in trouble. His motivation for becoming a teacher was to inspire the next generation. Growing up, he did not have many teachers that looked like him and came from where he was from. Alexander wanted to be a teacher that kids could relate to. Infectious diseases specialist Prof Ridwanur Rahman said, "I would say we need a complete shutdown for two weeks as hospitals are at capacity. A return to working from home and wearing masks will prevent some opportunities for the virus to spread. But that’s highly unlikely to be enough. But the shutdown was not properly implemented, especially during the Eid festivals when tens of thousands people left Dhaka for their village homes. Besides, the garment factories were allowed to operate. The phase may also see families allowed to travel for short breaks around the UK, though with restrictions on household mixing. Fourth phase On August 3 last year, the positivity rate was 31.91 percent, the highest seen in the country. The number of daily cases remained high between May and August last year, and stayed low in September and October. Mr Alexander is hoping the book will help children to learn how to manage their expectations which positively impacts their mental health.

Along with receiving praise from the media, Alexander also received a letter from the Mayor of London praising him for the work he did with his students during the pandemic. “I felt that it was not just a thank you to me, but it was a thank you to the whole teaching profession,” Alexander says.” When I tweeted about the letter at the time, I extended thanks and gratitude to all the teachers across the country because this was just one thing that I had done personally.” Sources said the Cabinet Division sent a proposal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recommending a ban or limit on public movement and other activities.

During his book tour, Alexander developed a group called Banji’s Class. Forty five students from nine different schools in London make up the group. The group’s main focus is acting, dancing, and singing with a little rap mixed. The group falls in line with Alexander’s love of music and his former aspiration to be a musician himself. He says there is no greater feeling than helping someone realize they can do something they didn’t think possible, and that is what his experience has been with Banji’s Class. Mr Alexander tells the story through the eyes of a primary school aged child and gives credit to his friend Reggie for the inspiration. That may come after Christmas when the UKHSA predicts 250 cases will be in hospital – enough for a meaningful statistical comparison with the Delta variant. The mayor has clashed with regional authorities over the failure to reinforce the health system over the past six months. He said there are around 500 intensive care beds available across Campania, a region of 5.8 million people.

The protests, for the most part peaceful, have been gathering momentum since Monday, when bars and restaurants, a mainstay of the city’s economy, were forced to close at 6pm as part of nationwide measures. Cinemas, theatres and gyms have also been closed as the central government scrambles to regain control of the pandemic. It’s still possible that the peak in daily hospitalisations will be lower than the January record of 4,583. The source said the circuit breaker would need to last for long enough for everyone to get a booster, building an extra wall of defence. The Government says we should plan for Christmas as normal, but these are the same people who said we could travel to France or Spain earlier in the crisis only to reverse-ferret and give us a few days to get home. Perhaps to Step 3, in May 2021, with a limit of six people meeting indoors, and the hospitality industry restricted to table service inside.

Campania and the rest of southern Italy managed to avoid the worst of the initial phase of the pandemic. The contagion was slowed by the national measures, but also because people were keenly aware of the limitations of their health systems compared with those in the wealthier north.
