Description

It has been purported to help with the lowering of cholesterol naturally, increasing of vigor and stamina (it has been suggested to people recovering from long-term illnesses as an aid to help rebuild their strength). Areas relate to field areas multiplied by the number of crops in the year and hence differ from those shown in table 2.2.

Oats are relatively free from diseases and pests. Nonetheless, it does suffer from some leaf diseases, such as Leaf Rust, Stem Rust ( Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae), and Crown Rust ( P. coronata var. avenae). [34] :51. Crown rust infection can greatly reduce photosynthesis and overall physiological activities of oat leaves, thereby reducing growth and crop yield. [35] [36] A few caterpillars of lepidoptera feed on the plants—e.g. rustic shoulder-knot and setaceous Hebrew character moths, but these rarely become a major pest. Take 700 mg of oat straw extract 1–3 times daily to achieve the best results. It should always be taken with food and a minimum of 8 oz. of water. While oat straw extract has many benefits, following your doctor’s alternative dosage instructions is critical. Summary One study found an oatstraw extract to improve blood flow to the heart and brain. (Impaired blood flow is another risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke.) Bone, hair, and skin health In 2021, world production of oats was 22.5million tonnes (22,100,000 long tons; 24,800,000 short tons), led by Russia with 17% of the total. However, there is evidence that oat straw, also known as Avena sativa, can benefit mental health. Oat straw extract has many mental health benefits, including its capacity to cure depression and anxiety. Oat straw has been used to treat mood problems for years, while additional research is required to determine its full potential as a natural treatment for such conditions.

But asymptomatic CD may occur in up to 50% of affected individuals, 5 symptoms correlate poorly with mucosal pathology, 6 and even with excellent dietary adherence, histology and coeliac antibodies can take several years to normalize. 7 Although it is widely distributed as a cereal crop it is just as often found in garden beds or planted to prevent soil erosion. It should be noted that the term straw used for other crops than small cereals can be a source of confusion. Essentially, straw, stricto sensu, is dry and does not usually include residual grains and chaff (very small pieces of straws mixed with grain husks and weed seeds). However, straws from legumes and other plants may be significantly moist and include other plant residues. However, though urea treatment was "hugely extolled" asthe most promising treatment for small-scale farms in tropical areas ( Chander, 2010b), a 2010 report by the FAO showed that this technology could be considered a failure due to its poor adoption by farmers, except in China. Many reasons have been suggested among which the cost of urea, the time (and subsequent labour costs) needed and the insufficient water supply were the most important. Reducing labour requirements through the mechanical spraying of straw during harvest, or through the establishment of straw treatment cooperatives, might improve its adoption by a wider range of small farmers. The use of urine as cheap urea source was also proposed as a possible incentive factor for farmers ( Owen et al., 2010). Other chemical treatments While there is no known cure for cancer, it is preventable. Oats, for instance, are a type of beta-glucan. Beta-glucans are immunomodulators and be anticancer. Much more research is needed to validate the oat’s potential as a cancer fighter, but early indications are encouraging. Restorative Tonic This process takes the oat groats through several roll stands to flatten and separate the bran from the flour (endosperm). The two separate products (flour and bran) get sifted through a gyrating sifter screen to further separate them. The final products are oat bran and debranned oat flour. The composition of straws depends on the species and, like other crop residues, on the proportions of stems, leaves and other material such as soil. Cereal and grass straw contains about 4% DM protein vs.about 10% for legume straws. The crude fibre and ADF levels are roughly similar (35-40% DM) but cereal straws tend do be much richer in NDF (about 74% DM) than legume straws (about 54% DM). The latter, however, are more lignified (10% lignin vs. 6.5% DM for cereal straw). Straws are poor in sugars and starch (less than 2% for wheat straw). Temperate cereal straws (wheat, barley, oats) tend to have relatively low levels of mineral matter (5-7% DM) but other cereal species, like rice, are rich in minerals (18% DM).
