My love for Anna Zaires exploded after reading Mia & Korum trilogy and so I was very excited to read this trilogy even though it was dark romance instead of fantasy/sci-fi. And after reading the Twist me series I can unequivocally say that Anna Zaires is now amongst my top 5 favourite authors of all time. Julian's character is a great balance between monster and lover. He can't be all bad, no one is but at no point does Anna Zaires sugar coat what and who he is - a criminal with a very skewed moral compass. Actually that compass might actually be very very broken. Still, we see how Nora changes him, see how he softens in some areas and harden in others. It was great to see him evolving as the story progressed too. Still, with all that evolution and growth... a leopard cannot change its spots. He's still Julian. Nora's innocence and strength is a perfect compliment for Julian's depravity and obsessive protectiveness. Whenever they are together it is as if their heat could set the room ablaze. When they are apart there is such intense longing. I can hear her screams, though. Inhuman shrieks of pain and agony that slice me open, leaving my mind as raw and mangled as her flesh. Now, she wasn’t in captivity for a little while. In fact, Nora was in Julian’s possession for more than a year. During this time, the sex went from rigorously and wantonly brutal to a mutual, though nonetheless twisted variation. Last ThoughtsWhen I say this book was the epitome of captivating I honestly am not exaggerating. I could not put it down for a second. I was drawn by the incredible storyline, the intensity of Julian, the chemistry between him and Nora. It got a bit boring during the middle, but actually now that the book is over... the middle really makes sense...because where the h was being held... there was really nothing to do, but what she was doing...sooooooo...Yeah, no action required... (by golly! I think I just figured that out!) While Julian does have his darker, sadistic tendencies, there is a raw, primal tenderness to him that just melts me!! His evolution from cruel, sadistic captor to darkly besotted husband and lover was such a gloriously thing to hold. But at his core he retained his same ruthlessly sinister edge. He made no excuses—or apologies--for the choices he made. He wanted Nora, so he took her. End of story. And in the process he stole the heart of countless fans.

So yes, I give this trilogy 5/5 stars. It's a fast read and I definitely recommend anyone with an open mind to jump in and read it. But with the teaser, the author does allude to the fact that Julian is well aware of what he has done to this malleable girl, she believes she loves him. I was torn between 2 or 4 stars, but it's a romance book, so I don't think the really dark potential of the story will be realised. I shrug. Jake and I don’t run in the same circles. He’s got cheerleaders climbing all over him, and I’ve been watching him long enough to know that he goes for tall blond girls, not short brunettes. For all that Nora knows, her abductor might just want to kill her. Despite her efforts to get away, she is completely unsuccessful. However, she does see that Julian is an exceedingly attractive, alluring person. As the process of the abduction reaches its climax, Nora Leston finds herself on an island of all places.
