About this deal

Callie and her Cleft’ picture book about cleft lip and palate (please let us know if you’d like this included) As every material has its individual advantages and disadvantages, we offer a selection of robust baby drinking bottles made of glass as well as baby drinking bottles made of high-quality polypropylene (PP) and polyamide (PA), naturally free of BPA. The lightweight and unbreakable plastic material of the NUK baby drinking bottles is a good choice when on the go and promotes the learning effect when drinking, as the little ones can easily hold the weight of the bottle themselves without any danger. Baby bottles made of polyamide are highly transparent and come visually closer to the glass bottle. Baby bottles made of polypropylene, on the other hand, can be frozen and heated in the microwave. of mothers were satisfied or very satisfied with the NUK First Choice Clinic Teat. The majority of nurses would like to continue working with the new teats. For restful nights, our range also includes models with a light-up effect. The glow-in-the-dark material allows your baby to find its cup all by itself and therefore promotes independent drinking. All you have to do is put the NUK cup in the light for a while. The special material stores the light energy and emits it as a soft glow for up to eight hours. The cute cup design is not only pretty to look at, but also extremely robust. So if the learner cup does fall onto the floor, that's no problem. The BPA-free polypropylene (PP) that our NUK cups are made of is strong and can withstand a fall from a high chair without any problems. Drinking cups & bottles in different shapes and designs Suitable for combination feeding* - the extra wide lip support simulates breast feeding as closely as possible

Talk to your child: explain why it is time to give up using a soother – for example, because your child is getting too big or because the soother is old and tired. NUK Silicone Teats are made from a high-quality synthetic material. The clear silicone material is easily cleaned and highly heat-resistant. Even direct sunlight or edible fats do not age the material. Silicone teats have a neutral taste and smell. However, silicone is slightly less bite and tear-resistant than latex. For this reason, NUK also uses firmer, more bite-resistant silicone material for the size 3 teat. Should a silicone teat have even small bite marks or other signs of damage, it should be replaced immediately. For reasons of hygiene and safety, it is generally recommended to replace all teats – whether latex or silicone – after 1-2 months. One of the oldest materials known to man is also used by NUK in the production of baby bottles. Glass is particularly hygienic and heat- resistant. In this process, NUK uses only borosilicate glass, which, with its cross-linked surface structure, wears well and withstands variations in temperature.A learner cup reliably supports your child in getting used to drinking from cups or real glasses after baby bottles. NUK drinking cups are suitable for babies from around 6 months. Learning the necessary skills to drink like grown-ups is very easy and intuitive with learner cups and bottles. Especially for babies who can't wait to copy mummy and daddy, a learner cup is a practical aid to avoid spills. Scientific study: Moral et al. BMC Pediatrics 2010, 10:6. For more information go to http://nuk.com/research The product range for alternatives without BPA is wide. Precisely which materials they are, we explain for you here:

Polyamide are synthetic materials with a high level of transparency, which it retains by being chemical-resistant – discolouring and clouding are a thing of the past. Polyamide is BPA-free, but not suitable for the microwave however. Material of bottle - Baby bottles have traditionally been made from BPA-free plastic, but many brands are now offering premium glass options too, which are a more sustainable and eco-friendly choice.

This is purely a matter of “taste”. Both materials have their advantages. You can, of course, switch between teat materials. However, once children have their first teeth, we recommend the use of soothers made from latex as it is more bite-resistant than silicone. A vent in our NUK Anti-Colic AIR SYSTEM helps prevent a vacuum building up in the bottle: your baby can drink continuously without swallowing air. Bottles made from polypropylene have a milky transparency, are particularly sturdy and can even be used for freezing food. Baby bottles made from polyamides look the most like glass bottles as they are highly transparent. Both synthetic materials are of course BPA-free. Scientists from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2 examined this hypothesis and assessed relevant international studies from the years 1966 to 2004. The first smile, the first word, the first step - milestones in your child's development, just like the transition from mother's breast to independent drinking. But what is the best way to learn to drink? With a learner cup, it can be child's play. Our Evolution and First Choice Cups’ soft spout, as well as the ergonomic handles of the babies drinking cups are specially designed to make the beginnings of independent drinking easier, more relaxed and comfortable for your little darling. Take advantage of our clever learner cups’ many talents now! Advantages of learner cups at a glance

Cold water sterilisation (e.g. Milton fluid) – this is the recommended method as it may help your bottles to last longer. Scientists from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2examined this hypothesis and assessed relevant international studies from the years 1966 to 2004. Before using this bottle, parents and carers should be instructed in its safe use by a trained feeding specialist. This will reduce the risk of the baby aspirating or choking during feeds. Soon the probably most exciting and beautiful challenge of your life will begin: Your baby will be born and you, as a mum or dad, couldn't be happier or more proud about your little one! Especially in the first few months of life, you give your little darling a lot of attention and want to be perfectly equipped for all eventualities. The popular soother, which soothes your baby in every situation and provides gentle moments of well-being is an integral part of yours baby's basic equipment. The soother: For your child's healthy oral developmentHow you are feeding? - Are you formula feeding, expressing breast milk for your baby or doing a combination of the two? Some bottles are more closely matched in both size, texture and flexibility to natural feeding, and as such, are often better accepted by babies who are used to the breast. While CLAPA does supply specialist bottles and teats, our staff are not medically trained and cannot give advice as to which items would be suitable for your baby. Make a “deal” with your child: the soother can only be used at home, until your child is ready to say goodbye. Another tactic: motivate your child into giving the soother to someone else as a “present” – e.g. to a newborn you both know, as this baby “needs” the soother urgently. Very important: give your child lots of praise when the beloved soother is given away. children who go to sleep with a soother have a much lower risk of cot death. However, the specific reasons for this have not yet been completely researched.

Feeding challenges - Does your baby have any feeding challenges such as colic or reflux? Do they regularly get trapped wind, gas, or spit up milk? Some bottles have anti-colic valves to help prevent air bubbles, which can cause painful gas or trapped wind. There are a number of alternative soft bottles available on the internet or high street. Brands include Vital and Nuby bottles. However, these are not designed specifically for babies with a cleft, so parents should always consult with their Cleft Nurse Specialists before purchasing or using any of these. Before your baby uses a new NUK Soother for the first time, you should use a gentle washing-up liquid (e.g. the NUK Bottle Cleanser) [[DEEP LINK]] ) to thoroughly clean it and then boil it for approx. 5 minutes. A “healthy” sleeping environment is important: the best place is cuddled up in a baby sleeping bag, on a firm mattress, in the baby’s own bed, in the parents’ bedroom. Babies should not be dressed too warmly – an additional blanket is normally unnecessary – and the room should be aired regularly. Note: Bottles should not be handled/ scrubbed (outside surface) or wiped with a cloth until they have fully cooled down (if using steam or microwave to sterilize) as it will lead to the ink coming off the bottles. With excessive sterilization and/or rough scrubbing of the exterior of the bottle, the ink on some Dr Brown’s bottles may peel or fade over time.

The special feature of NUK soothers

The main difference is that latex is a natural product whereas silicone is synthetically produced. As a result, both materials have their own special characteristics. Many learner cups or cups with a drinking rim have large, non-slip handles on the sides, including the NUK learner cups. The handles help your baby to hold the cup securely in their hands when learning to drink, making it easier for them to drink independently. If you are using a learner cup without a handle, it is better to give your baby a little help at the beginning. (German Joint Parent Cot Death Initiative) N.B: All NUK Soothers have an AIR SYSTEM. A vent allows air to escape from the baglet when it is pressed together by the palate. This means that the teat always fits a child´s mouth perfectly. During boiling, water can get into the baglet through the vent.
