We have a range of 6 developers suitable for processing paper. Below is a short overview of each and what they are best suited to: Powder paper developers (for dish/tray processing) Since I wanted to compare like to like, I went out with two Holga 120n cameras (yes, I own two – it’s fine, it’s totally fine!). Note - this developer is also suitable for processing sheet film (1+9 or 1+19). A 1L bottle at a 1+9 dilution will enable 100 10x8" sheets of film to be processed. HARMAN WARMTONE It is used at a 1+9 dilution with 1L bottle producing approximately 700 resin coated 10x8" prints or 450 fibre base 10x8" prints.

This developer gives a good performance with all our paper products and produces a slightly warm image tone. t has good keeping properties, so can typically be reused, and is available as a 1L item. It should be diluted at a ratio of 1+9 which will produce approximately 600 resin coated 10x8" prints or 350 fibre base 10x8" prints. Machine processing developers (for labs) 2150 XL Our liquid concentrate developers are easy to use/mix and fit into 3 categories - those for spiral/deep tank processing, those for machine processing (as in labs), and specialist developers. Spiral/deep tank processing developers ILFOTEC DD-X You can always add more contrast, but removing it is much harder. DD-X helped create a detailed image with rich tonality. Photo taken on Ilford HP5 with a Hasselblad 503cx and 150mm f/4 lens What are the downsides of DD-X? The last downside is that DD-X is not an environmentally-friendly chemical. Like most developers, DD-X made from the phenols dimezone and hydroquinone, which come from the petrochemical industry. It’s not safe to place in a septic tank and is known to be toxic to aquatic life downstream. I started by putting a roll of Ilford HP5+ in each Holga and shot the same image for the entire roll.We offer a broad range of film developers that are designed to exploit the different characteristics of our films. Developers are available in either powder and liquid concentrate form and have a range of characteristics that offer photographers and lab technicians a wide range of processing options. If you’re the type of photographer who often pushes your film and likes having a liquid developer, DD-X is going to be one of the best developer choices. DD-X will not let you down, no matter what kind of lighting you throw at your negatives. Powder developers are not as convenient as liquid concentrate developers yet typically are more economical. They are generally recommended for users who are already comfortable with using chemicals/processing films. A single 1L bottle isn’t that expensive, but when you consider that it requires a 1+4 dilution, that means you’re only getting 10 cycles out of a single bottle. For example, Rodinal, which usually comes in a 500ml bottle at a cheaper price, can develop up to 50 rounds, totaling 100 rolls of 35mm film — all in a solution that doesn’t expire over time. That’s why I always recommend Rodinal (or Blazinal in Canad) to be the first film developer for new film photographers. But film developers all perform a little bit different. Some of them can make dramatic changes in the look of your images. DD-X is one of the most common, and most expensive developers on the market.

For use you dilute the liquid concentrate normally at 1+9 for one-shot use at 20 degrees C. For greater economy they can be used with many films at a higher dilution of 1+14 with only a small trade off in image quality. Full unopened bottles will keep for a year and opened for four months. This developer gives a good performance with all our paper products producing a neutral to slightly warm image tone. It has good keeping properties, so can typically be reused, and is available as 500ml, 1L and 5L items.
