There isn’t a release date for the movie just yet. That’s not surprising with it only just coming out to theaters. It is an MGM movie, though, so we can look at other releases from the same studio. When the film depicts Till-Mobley’s testimony in court, Deadwyler is Oscar-worthy. Watch how it looks as if she’s physically convulsing from loss at one moment, and how she then transitions to an unshakable certainty when faced with the defense’s lie that the body she buried was someone other than her son. Once Bryant takes the stand and spins her tale that she was almost raped by Emmett, Deadwyler is riveting in her righteous indignation as she walks out. “I know the verdict already,” she tells her lawyer.

In the early hours of August 28, Carolyn's husband, Roy, and his half-brother, John William "J. W." Milam, arrive at Wrights' house and force themselves inside. They locate Till inside one of the bedrooms and force him to put on his clothes before kidnapping him. Till's great-aunt Elizabeth offers the men money, but Milam refuses. Before leaving, Milam holds Wright hostage with a gun. Inside one of the other vehicles, Carolyn identifies Till and the Bryants drive off into the night. Emmett is then badly beaten, fatally shot, and his body is dumped into the Tallahatchie River. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune also noted Chukwa's direction and Deadwyler's performance, but felt more screen time was needed to justify "Mamie's transformation from relatively apolitical Chicagoan to an urgently engaged citizen of a wider world." But even so, this is an absolutely gorgeous transfer that even hits the mark in its nighttime and dimly lit scenes which hold up nicely with little to no banding or crush.

Universal pays mad respect to Chinonye Chukwu's Till with a wonderful hi-def transfer of the film that looks absolutely flawless. However, the studio misses the mark with its blu-ray + DVD + Digital Code edition that comes up way short.
