What can we expect to see in your new exhibition 'How to Make A Million Before Dinner' at Edwina Corlette Gallery in Brisbane? What has inspired this body of work? Basically, the spray provides a layer of coating on the water in the toilet bowl. When you poop, it floats to beneath the surface, and traps the smelly molecules under water. You then flush the toilet, and the noxious substance is flushed down the drain. I’ve always been a hustler. If I could make money, then I could get myself out of there,” she says. When she was 17, she called Guess jeans to sell them on her own design for denim pumps. The company, she says, invited her to their offices, but her mother said she had no place in New York City. Because as much as we might not like to think about it, or talk about it, everybody poops. It’s a fact of life. No matter how well put together your outfit might be, no matter how on point your make-up, (me), at some point you will poo and it will not be fragrant. Fact.

I would have felt so much more comfortable if I had known I could use the en-suite and not be worried about making the place smell like a neglected cow shed, and I know I’m not the only one. The third was when I did a dinner project for Roop-Rote-Ruang called Taste Touch Tell in Sydney a few years ago. I hosted a series of dinner parties at various private residences in Sydney. At the dinner parties, I presented a new ceramic dinner set (105 pieces) on a coral reef theme. The work unfolded as the meal (cooked by me) was consumed. The project emphasised the role of ceramics in sensory experience and embraced the Buddhist concept of ‘Ayatana’, the six channels of awareness. Guests' sight, taste, smell, hearing, touch and mindfulness were engaged as the ceramic story was revealed. Ispoke with Vipoo Srivilasa about his upcoming exhibition at Olsen Gallery over beloved Zoom. The technology strongly embraced during the pandemic is not the only hangover of these past few years, but as Srivilasa playfully explores in this exhibition, so is the lingering sense of loneliness. Not only do the ceramic forms exude a sense of joy, but the feeling of happiness is integral to their creation. For Srivilasa, he needs to enjoy and feel happy while creating the work, which is evidenced in the expression of the works themselves. While reflective of difficult times and those friends we wish we held close during the pandemic, Always Better Together reminds, and enables us to embrace each other and joy. Will this pocket-sized personal hygiene product dethrone conventional air fresheners, or are its claims a little on the nose?

Vipoo Srivilasa (VIC) is a Thai-born artist, curator and arts activist who works predominantly in porcelain but also creates work on paper, mix media sculptures, bronze statues and designs large scale public art. I don’t usually glaze my work, as I want to play with different surface textures – both matte and glossy. The matte surface is created by the bare ceramic body (with no glaze). When my work is left unglazed I feel it is differentiated from the traditionally glazed blue and white porcelain.

Vipoo Srivilasa is a Thai-born Melbourne-based artist, curator and arts activist. Srivilasa works predominantly in porcelain but Use V.I.Poo and you're adding strangely named chemicals to our waste water network. And while its ingredients are commonly found in many hygiene and household products and (in V.I.Poo quantities at least) are unlikely to harm the environment, it's good practice to keep chemical additions to our sewer system to a minimum. Does it actually work? While the spray is relatively safe, but is only meant for external use. You should avoid using it near young children or pets. The spray is not intended as a toy.
