Whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner, the Tenor Mahogany Ukulele offers a timeless design and reliable performance, inviting you to explore the rich and melodic world of ukulele music. Obviously, I don't want to spend lots on two ukes that might not get taken up by their new owners, but I think the Makala Dolphin/Shark option is a good balance.

musste sie bestimmt 10 mal nachstimmen, aber damit habe ich gerechnet, die Saiten sind eben aus Kunststoff. If you’re the kind of person that doesn’t bash the strings quite so hard though you’re going to get the most out of this uke. I had my dolphin for four years, and despite having a Fender (Tenor in low G) and "upgrading" to a Marshall (don't do that) for standard tuning, I still play my beginner uke the most. The tuners on the MK-S work fine, and as far as I can tell they’re identical to the tuners on the KA-15S except for the buttons.I'll be visiting an old school friend and his wife in New Zealand over Christmas (2023) from Blighty.

For quite a long time I’ve recommended Makala Dolphins (among others) to ukulele newcomers but it’s fair to say not everyone wants a dolphin on their ukulele. Only down side is that I have worn the paint through to the wood on some corners (must wear a wool pullover when playing). In January, this year, I joined the Sandbach U3A ukulele class and, with the Aquilla strings that James fitted as an 'extra', it is a joy to learn on.When you wrote the review, I was fortunate to be staying with my Coz in South Island, NZ and almost to the day, we sauntered into Post Impressions - facebook. The Makala MK-CE Concert Ukulele is one of our largest sellers, and comes highly recommended by Red Cow Music.

I can’t point to a particular feature of the KA-15S that would account for this difference, but it could be the upgraded nut and saddle (covered below). There were a few minor imperfections here and there, but these issues were purely cosmetic and don’t affect tone or playability. Friends in the band have also bought them as 'travel ukes' (the sort of instrument you won't shed a tear over breaking or being stolen) and band members have taken these to the far east and Australia last year! NuBone is a harder, denser material than plastic and will (in theory) transmit more of the strings’ vibration to the body of the uke. I’m from Malaysia and its hard for me to get an ukulele Kala Makala Dolphin Soprano Ukulele – Light Blue Burst.

And so it is now in my possession, shortly to be sold on but I figured it was worth writing a review of the Makala. All impressions are based on the how the uke performed “out of the box” with no tweaks or adjustments.

I decided I wanted to learn to play the ukulele (but never touched one in my life) and chose this one. The Makala ukulele comes in the traditional wood look and also in a series of pastel colors (blue, pink etc. Got a Cherry Sunburst Dolphin and thoroughly enjoy playing it as well as my guitars and Makala Concert and Soprano.Originally I bought the Makala MK-S for my dad, he’d expressed an interest in learning ukulele very shortly after I started playing. I'm very pleased to have this new (ish) ukulele brand back on the reviews page, and particularly with a collaboration model that I must . Even though the action was a bit high for my tastes, most folks would be able to play this uke without any major issues. It is chipped and dinged in all sorts of places (that Dolphin thick glossy finish does chip easily I have found) but it still plays just fine.
