The final two series focused on new Laird Paul Bowman trying to modernise the estate, primarily starring Lloyd Owen, Tom Baker, Alexander Morton and Susan Hampshire. The challenges of being a single parent compel Golly to consider giving baby Cameron to Meg's sister to raise. Kilwillie, who has fallen for Molly, decides he can repay the death duties by marrying Molly, while Lexie learns that Irene is pregnant. Hector was no financial genius and had run the estate into the ground before handing the place over to his son to avoid death duties. Acorn Media UK produced the original DVDs, but in 2006 a box-set featuring all seven series on 22 discs was produced by the BBC themselves.

Monarch combined comedy and drama in a skilful mix, never turning into a farce but able to turn to tragedy in the wink of an eye which I personally always found a little unpalatable. The estate is put up for sale and everyone makes arrangements for new homes as Paul and Golly become lovesick and the strength of Glenbogle's residents is put to the test. Even when the makers make choices that could be termed interesting and are definitely frustrating, and take the show in some unexpected directions in later seasons, you find that you've become so attached to the characters that you'll follow them to the end anyway. Ostensibly, the star of the show was Alastair Mackenzie as Archie MacDonald, sulky London restauranteur turned Scottish Laird in a tax dodge cooked up by his dotty father Hector (played by Richard Briers). The surprise forces Paul to consider his true feelings for Iona while attempting to heal the damage in the woods. P (One of the subplots of the episode is that one of the characters is struggling with, um, dysfunction and then is "cured. Andrew thinks Molly is cheating on him when he overhears Molly with another man; but she has really set up a dating agency. My parents and younger brother and I watched the show in its entirety last year, having previously watched a few seasons several years ago. Golly has to decide whether to give his new son Cameron away to his late partner Meg's sister or whether to keep him.

There is one strange episode in which the estate experiences a full moon or eclipse or something like that, and apparently that makes literally everyone extremely "horny.

The Acorn Media UK DVDs, featured special features such as an exclusive interview with Susan Hampshire, photo galleries, production notes and filmographies. Paul tries to hide his feelings for Iona as he is asked to give Iona away at her wedding with Malcolm. Hector and Kilwillie are determined to catch a pike, while Molly's brother Jolyon finds his old love. Katrina and Kilwillie go head to head in the local election, but Kilwillie's loyalty seems non-existent when instead of campaigning, he joins Hector in the shoot. Meanwhile, Jess competes in the local Ghillie's challenge, as the only woman, with all odds stacked against her.

Iona is stunned when her former fiancé, Malcolm McRae, comes to Glenbogle to help save the estate's forest from a spreading fungi. It was also because I know That Which Happens At The End Of Season Two, and I was so not about to put myself through that when there was a danger of not being able to watch the third season. Alex becomes the estate factor, makes Paul be a traditional Laird, and exploits Isobel over a proposal about her trees.Ratings hit an all-time low in 2004, and BBC bosses axed the show, but promised that they would bring back many of the cast from earlier series for a fantastic series finale. Lady Dorothy plans to build an Eco-Dome, but needs access through Archie's land for her plan to succeed - Lexie is suspicious and goes to investigate. A Greg MacDonald tries to take the Lairdship from Archie who is once again in debt, needing to pay his father's death duties.
